This is what I’ve spent the winter doing while freezing my bones off at the 1st & Mass space. Nothing like being uncomfortable to inspire truly focused work, right? It’s a mix of tons of keyboards, gritty electronics, and sometimes utterly brash drums (and the occasional string section, courtesy of the amazing Brianna Atwell). Shooting for a release date of July 31st, 2012, on Don’t Be a Lout Music. I’ll let you know where the listening party is.

Also, I’ve been playing music with Emily Westman and Scott Teske. Scott was bass player in the Kindness Kind, Uncle Roman’s Jetboat project and Campfire OK. Emily has played with Blunt Mechanic (Barsuk), Horace Pickett, and others. I met Emily while playing in the Seattle Rock Orchestra – she shows the drums who’s boss. We’ll be playing a lot as time goes on, keep you posted when things are rolling.

Other than that, lots of new things with Monkey Prism…we’re releasing a new game in the next month or two which I am absolutely STOKED about! It’s been fun to develop the main character…he’s somewhat in homage to one of my favorite 80′s movies. Working with the newly fleshed-out group down there in SoCal has been a pleasure.

Also, I just completed making ‘futuristic’ UI sounds for a medical machine company. I’m a HUGE fan of this technology…Nic Danielson, coming to a hospital near you. Ha.

OK, prep time for the Seattle Rock Orchestra Beatles shows this weekend. See you at The Moore!

Partly it’s having a destination to go work in and finding a smooth workflow there – but the biggest part of it is simply staying the hell out of my own way and running with whatever surprises my subconscious brings into the studio each morning. No major struggles yet, knock on wood. Anyway, it’s all patched in, all I need is a cup of coffee and a flip of the switch. Love that.

All that said, this is going toward a solo album. I’m working toward a group of 20 songs before I make any decisions. Shoot first, ask questions later. I’m nearly 1/2 way there.

In Uncle Roman’s Jetboat news…mastering is done! Stoked. Out early 2012 on Don’t be a Lout!
