OK Folks, here’s a sound design project for iOS I did earlier this year that has just recently been released to the public. I can now say that I’ve neighed like a pony, panted, barked, growled like a bear and belched like a monster – on national TV. Bucket list…….check!

Appy Petz are 4 different types of plush dolls that interface with your iOS device to create an interactive stuffed animal. Face Mode is the mode you use to interact with the plush doll, while Pet Mode gives you a further away perspective of the animal to interact with when you don’t have the doll with you.

Let’s just say that as a fully-grown male of our species, it was a unique challenge to pull off sounding like a pony. The monster, however – no problemo! Some of the most fun was coming up with the audio for the creature’s dreams sequences, i.e. bear blowing himself out of a cannon get to the bee’s nest. Awesome.

As you know, my record ‘In the Tidelands’ came out at the end of July – Holy hell, thank you for the support!!! It means a lot to put your blood into a project, see it through, and to have it received so well. I’m working on making a live show happen in the near future – in fact we’re planning a ‘Don’t Be a Lout & Friends’ showcase come early 2013! I’m super excited about this live prospect. Also, I’m roughly halfway through a new EP of Niku stuff…excited for the new music. On a less positive note, I found out yesterday that our art space is going down the tubes in a couple of months. This is absolutely heart-breaking since a lot of people have put their souls into making this place the fantastic space that it is (it began as a huge and frightening warehouse full of rusty saw blades, dust and old mattresses/toilets)…but I’m trying to see it as a positive thing in terms of having a reachable goal for having all the tracking done for my EP! On to the next.

Monkey Prism’s iOS app ZombieWords came out this summer as well. We’re stoked about how it turned out, and we’re releasing a new update for it, probably within a month or so. If you haven’t had a chance, please download and check it out! It’s a combination of tongue-in-cheek survival horror with the vocabulary-building aspects of an anagram game. It also features music by Seattle’s Uncle Roman’s Jetboat, and all the sound/voiceover stuff by yours truly. Let me tell ya, I had to drink some truly gnarly whiskey to achieve such a gravely voice. We’ve had some nice reviews coming in as well, from some top-notch app sites:

In Seattle Rock Orchestra news, I spoke on a panel at the SRO Summer Intensive at the Moore Theatre recently. The subject was how one’s classical music training has affected their career in other genres. Some good topics were covered, from technique to work ethic to how-to tips for conquering stage fright. A fun time and so rad to see all the upcoming talent. Also you should come see the SRO do the Arcade Fire this August 25th at The Neptune! We’ll be doing both Funeral and Neon Bible while featuring singers like the esteemed zombie-killer Sir Chris Cunningham (Ravenna Woods), Benjamin Verdoes (Mt. St. Helen’s Vietnam Band), Ian Williams (The Thoughts), Kaylee Cole, and Senandoah Davis.

Ok, that wasn’t so quick. I think I missed The Who.
